The US military is preparing options for a possible resumption of full-scale military operations against Iran, despite President Donald Trump’s ambiguous remarks about the prospect of renewed hostilities.
The proposed plan envisages a three-day military campaign involving strikes against Iran using all available means.
In recent months, the Pentagon and Trump’s national security team have presented the president with five proposals for large-scale military operations against Iran or Yemen’s Houthi movement. According to the newspaper, Trump rejected all five options.
Meanwhile, several people close to Trump reportedly believe that military action against Iran would not alter Tehran’s strategic calculations. Some argue that the campaign of economic pressure on Iran is yielding results and that more time is needed to compel Tehran to make significant concessions.
Trump previously said that the United States did not intend to strike Iran before the midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
