Blinken met with the families of those captured by Hamas

Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with top Israeli leaders on a visit to the country Wednesday, while also speaking to families of hostages being held in Gaza.

In Jerusalem, Blinken met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his office, ahead of another meeting between the two men scheduled for later in the day, Netanyahu’s office said.

Ahead of his meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Blinken reiterated calls for Hamas to accept a proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza in exchange for the release of hostages and voiced concern over the humanitarian crisis in the besieged Strip.

Also on Wednesday, Blinken met privately at his hotel in Tel Aviv with families of hostages being held by Hamas and then spoke briefly to demonstrators outside the hotel who were calling for U.S. help in securing their release.

“I just want to share with you what I shared with them: Bringing your loved ones home is at the heart of everything that we try to do, and we will not rest until everyone, man, woman, soldier, civilian, young, old, is back home,” he told a small crowd.
