Mehrdad Setare, General Director of Forensic Medical Expertise of East Azerbaijan Province, announced that 588 people were killed in accidents in East Azerbaijan in the first half of the year, with over 10,000 injured.
"During this period, 487 of the total number of road accident victims were men and 101 were women," he said in a statement.
According to him, 10,543 people were injured in traffic accidents during the first half of this year, with 7,461 being men and 3,822 being women.
In the first half of last year, 10,729 people were injured in accidents in East Azerbaijan.
The low safety factor of South Azerbaijan's roads, as well as non-standard car production in Iran, are the primary causes of the increase in accidents and deaths among Azerbaijan's citizens.
