Medicine prices in Iran have surged severalfold

Prices of some medicines in Iran have increased by between 30% and 300% since the recent war, leaving many patients — especially cancer patients — facing serious difficulties.

This was reported by Etemad newspaper.

Hadi Ahmadi, spokesperson and board member of the Iran Pharmacists Association, said the war had caused significant damage to the country’s pharmaceutical industry.

Etemad also cited cancer patients as saying that the drug “Exjuva,” which previously cost less than one million tomans with insurance coverage before the war, has now risen to 30 million tomans without subsidies.

Other patients reported that the prices of medications for thyroid disorders, depression, and rheumatism had doubled.

According to the newspaper, sanctions pressure, declining government foreign currency reserves, damage to pharmaceutical production facilities, and difficulties importing medicine have made access to treatment increasingly difficult for many patients.
