Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence against Amirhossein Akbari Monfared, a 27-year-old political prisoner held at Evin Prison in Tehran, according to human rights organizations.

Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence against Amirhossein Akbari Monfared, a 27-year-old political prisoner held at Evin Prison in Tehran, according to human rights organizations.
Monfared was accused of membership in the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK) and moharebeh, a charge commonly translated as “waging war against God.”
Monfared, his father, brother and sister were arrested in Karaj last winter. Although his family members were subsequently released on bail, Monfared remained in detention and faced serious charges.
